HATTIESBURG — The Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport is one step closer to its new hangar.
During Monday’s meeting of the Forrest County Board of Supervisors, The Hattiesburg American reports board members authorized and approved a loan not to exceed $230,000 on behalf of Forrest County and the Airport Authority from the Mississippi Development Authority.
The funds will help build the airport’s 17th general aviation hangar, which will house four aircraft. Construction on the 100-foot by 100-foot structure began about three months ago.
The 3 percent MDA loan will be paid back through a mix of hangar rental and fuel sales. The airport previously received a $250,000 Multi-Modal grant from the Mississippi Department of Transportation, which covers about 54 percent of the hangar’s $463,000 price tag.
